From November 17th to 22nd, 2023, Professor Jesús Prieto, the overseas chief scientist of Precision Biotech, visited Chongqing at the key point where the CAR-T series drug development achievements of Precision Biotech broke out, and made a phased summary for overseas scientific research to assist Precision Biotech R&D transformation and upgrading, gather global scientific and technological resources and boost product development and application.Professor Prieto combed the development of frontiers in gene and cell technology , and worked with the company to plan overseas R&D layout and overseas marketing, striving to make Precision Biotech into a globally competitive biopharmaceutical enterprise at an early date. During this period, Professor Jesús Prieto also conducted a series of academic reports and technical exchange activities in Chongqing University and Precision Biotech.
Professor Jesús Prieto is a foreign expert in the International Joint Research Center of the Ministry of Science and Technology of China, an academician of the Spanish Academy of Sciences, former President of the Spanish Association for the Study of the Liver (AEEH), former President of the International Committee of the American Society of Gene Therapy and at present Emeritus Professor of Medicine at the University of Navarra.As the foreign chief scientist of Precision Biotech and an overseas expert of Haizhi Workstation, in October 2016, Professor Jesús Prieto was entrusted by Professor Qian Cheng, the chairman and chief scientist of Precision Biotech, to lead a group of foreign experts to participate in the start-up operation ceremony of Precision Biotech, and jointly agreed on the global scientific research and innovation strategy. Since then, Professor Jesús Prieto has led more than 10 senior experts from the United States, Germany, Switzerland, Spain and other European and American regions hired by Precision Biotech to carry out the research and development of cutting-edge technologies for gene editing and synthetic biology and achieved fruitful results. He has successively reached technical cooperation agreements with Uruguay, Germany, Brazil, Russia, Japan, Singapore and other institutions, which has built a bridge for Precision Biotech’s CAR-T products for solid tumors and the next generation of gene cell drugs to enter the international market.
This time, Professor Jesús Prieto had an in-depth exchange with the R&D teams of the company. Based on the company's current R&D achievements, he conducted several rounds of meetings and discussions focusing on technical breakthroughs, which made clear the direction for the technical development of the company and the positioning of its overseas technical layout. At the same time, he is very positive about the development of Precision Biotech in the past seven years, and he also admires the technological innovation policy and environment in China.
During this period, Professor Jesús Prieto, accompanied by Professor Qian Cheng, gave a special academic report on "New Strategy of Cancer Radiotherapy-Immunotherapy-Gene Combination Therapy" to the teachers and students at the G-Seminar International Academic Frontier Lecture of Intelligent Oncology of Chongqing University on November 21st, and had in-depth exchanges with experts and professors from Chongqing University School of Medicine on the basic and transformation research of precision medicine.
On November 22nd, in the lecture hall of precision biology, an academic lecture entitled "Research Progress and New Ideas of Tumor Immunotherapy" was given to experts from the Cancer Hospital affiliated to Chongqing University and the backbone of Precision Biotech.
Professor Jesús Prieto Introduction
Professor Jesús Prieto is a member of the Spanish Academy of Sciences, Emeritus Professor of Medicine at the University of Navarra, Spain, former director of the Department of Hepatology and Gene Therapy at the University of Navarra Hospital and the Center for Applied Medical Research (CIMA), former President of the Spanish Association for the Study of the Liver (AEEH), former President of the International Committee of the American Society of Gene Therapy, foreign expert at the "International Joint Research Center" of the Ministry of Science and Technology of China, the foreign chief scientist of Precision Biotech, and an overseas expert at the Haizhi Workstation of Precision Biotech. Professor Jesús Prieto is also a member of the editorial board of journals such as Gastroenterology, Hepatology and Molecular Medicine, a member of the Management Committee of the European Association for the Study of the Liver (EASL).
He is an honorary doctor of the University of Porto (Portugal) and the University of the South (Buenos Aires). He has published more than 400 papers in high-level journals such as New England Journal of Medicine, Journal of Experimental Medicine, Journal of Clinical Investigation, Cell Metabolism, PNAS, Gastroenterology, Hepatology, Journal of Hepatology, and widely cited reviews in journals such as Nature reviews Gastroenterology and Hepatology.
He has conducted several new treatments for liver diseases, including gene therapy trials using AAV vectors to treat acute intermittent porphyria and various gene therapy studies using adenoviral vectors to treat liver cancer. He received the EASL Recognition Award in 2013 and the National Medical Research Award from the King of Spain in 2014. Currently, he manages a laboratory at CIMA, focusing on the development of cancer immunotherapy strategies using AAV vectors.
